This weekend’s bets
Saturday 12th June
Santa Anita ParkSixth race, 6:30 p.m. ET
#7 Win often: Looks like she needed that last start after a three-month hiatus. On Saturday, she’s back to face an easier group of optional claimants and will be back on a dirt surface after two races on grass.
This change of surface could help launch a major effort because she has already won both attempts in the dirt surface race in Santa Anita, benefiting from a perfect chase ride on both efforts.
Churchill DownsRace 7, 9:05 p.m. ET
#2 Timing Sams: He raced well on his parimutuel debut and just missed, and finished by beating third by just a length and a half. He struggled for the lead early on and wasn’t able to hold off some of the contestants at the finish line. Having this one experience can really come in handy with so many people here to make their racing starts. Another factor that adds to the appeal is the early speed it seems to have. With a sharp break, look for that colt so it isn’t too far from the pace early on.
Churchill DownsRace 8, 9:39 p.m. ET
#4 Code Name Kate: She broke her boys in a big way and won over six lengths, but followed that effort after a disappointing month as the favorite against a tougher optional claim group overall. She ended up getting tired of late and faded after a quick duel at the front.
On Saturday, she got back to her running distance and drew a good pole to take advantage of the gate speed. She’s also getting into a quick workout, and she has a great chance here to beat her odds.
# 2 Juliette Foxtrot: Pricing will be short when posted probably around the 6-5AM line shown here, but she’s looked pretty cool in her last three starts. She’s won two of her last three speeding matches, and that’s exactly where she’ll be again. Not a lot of early speed was introduced, so expect this mare to secure the lead fairly easily against this group.
On top of her racing style, this mare enters the class and takes on more easily. Her rear separation would be helpful against this group.
