Volleyball Adds Transfer UCLA Mari Hinkle – University of Iowa Athletics


Iowa City, Iowa Vicki Brown announced, Thursday, the transfer of Marie Hinkle to the University of Iowa volleyball team for the fall 2021 season.

Hinkle, a defensive specialist/libero from Rosemount, Minnesota, played her first two seasons with the Bruins before entering the transfer gate.

β€œI am excited to have Mary join our programme,” Brown said. β€œThat mentality will bring the tenacity we always coach from the defensive side. She does really well with tracking the ball and moving. I am looking forward to her passing and receiving skills. She will also give good serve and it will be a great combination of how we develop our service. I am excited about the overall package we will be adding to our squad. “.

Hinkle played in 68 sets with the Bruins over two seasons. As a freshman, she scored 40 holes, four aces and kills in 20 games. In 2019, Hinkle scored five holes and a misery in the NCAA first round on December 6 against Notre Dame and two holes and an ace in the second round in fifth place in Wisconsin on December 7.

Hinkle played only two games in her sophomore campaign at UCLA.

Hinkle was a five-year rookie and two-time team captain as a set-up at Rosemount High School under coach Smokey Vitek. She earned All-America Team Honors 3rd Team Under Armor, 1st All-State Team, and 1st Star Tribune All-Metro Team. It was named PrepVolleyball Senior Ace #28 and second in Liberia.

Hinkle played volleyball for the Mizuna Northern Lights under coaches Adam Beamer and Walt Weaver. She helped her team reach second place in the 2019 AAU Nationals, and took home the All-America Team 18 Open Awards.

Hinkle’s older sister, Jordan, played for Wichita State (2011-13) and helped the Shockers to their first-ever NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in 2012.

Iowa brought back 15 letter winners in the fall under the titles of four seniors β€” hitter/right batsman Courtney Pozzerio, quarterback Amia Jones, defensive specialist Maddie Slagle, and quarterback Hannah Clayton.
