Why would Antonio Rudiger consider leaving Chelsea on a free transfer

An insight into the future of Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger was posted online, on Friday.

Blues fan

Germany international Rudiger is of course a rookie at his best so far at Stamford Bridge.

On the back of training Thomas Tuchel on the bench in West London in January, Rudiger quickly saw a significant increase in his playing time.

In turn, the former Roma man went on to fully repay the faith Tuchel displayed in his talents, as he starred in Chelsea’s strong 5-man defense line.

His performances proved so pivotal for the Blues, as they eventually finished fourth in the Premier League, before achieving European glory thanks to a deserved 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League final.

Chelsea exit?

As such, it goes without saying that all those associated with Chelsea will undoubtedly be keen to see Rudiger’s renewed stay for the foreseeable future.

So it would be of great concern to loyal pensioners to hear, as things stand, the German is in fact no closer to extending his current term at Stamford Bridge.

Rudiger’s contract is set to expire next summer.

In contrast, the matter has been widely seen as little more than a formality, as he will continue to put pen to paper on a new deal this summer.

According to the trusted Simon Johnson of The Athletic, Rudiger is in no hurry to open talks with those on the board of directors in the English capital.

This comes with the 28-year-old “considering leaving as a freelancer next summer”.

Rudiger remains happy at Chelsea, and he has thoroughly enjoyed his experience under Thomas Tuchel so far. However, the goalkeeper is said to be keeping in mind that his next contract is likely to prove to be the last major contract of his football career, and therefore is seeking a 4-year deal.

In addition, Rudiger is well aware that he currently sits outside the top 10 earners in West London, hinting that the Germany international feels somewhat underappreciated.

In contrast, a handful of clubs from across the continent have begun queuing for a Chelsea player, knowing that free agent negotiations could begin as early as next January.
