The winger was perhaps the most prominent criticism from coach Lionel Scaloni after his participation in the last World Cup qualifiers.
Seville winger Lucas Ocampos has been left out of Argentina’s squad for the Copa America, which ended on Thursday night, according to the official CONMEBOL website.
The 26-year-old was a regular fixture on Lionel Scaloni’s squad just a week before they faced Chile in a 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw. In his place, Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez, Angel Di Maria, Joaquin Correa, Sergio Aguero and Lucas Alario will serve as the nation’s forwards in the upcoming tournament. If Alario, who is currently suffering from an injury, does not recover next week, River Plate forward Julian Alvarez will finish last on the list.
Ocampos took a step back in the 2020-21 season at club level after making his league debut with fourteen goals and three assists for Sevilla the previous year. He has only managed one goal without penalty kicks in 34 domestic matches – and five when it contained penalties – and has been criticized for his recent troubles.
