Valtteri Bottas plays “an important role” in Lewis Hamilton versus Max Verstappen’s head-to-head battle for the 2021 World Cup.
Valtteri Bottas will play “an important role” in Lewis Hamilton against Max Verstappen head-to-head battle for the 2021 World Cup.
Former F1 driver Nick Heidfeld told f1-insider.com that Bottas is simply experiencing Hamilton at full throttle for the first time since replacing Nico Rosberg in 2017.
“Hamilton feels the pressure from Verstappen and really pushes,” he said. “That’s why we probably see the best Hamilton ever.
“It’s normal that even very good racing drivers like Bottas have a problem.”
F1 legend Gerhard Berger believes it could be crucial for the World Cup.
“Teammates are very important,” said the former Formula 1 driver and current head of the DTM series.
“That’s why Perez’s victory at Baku was such a good result for Red Bull – because it strengthens Perez and builds his confidence.
“Even before Verstapen’s retirement, Perez was a great help to Max. That’s exactly what Red Bull needs.
“I do not know what will happen to Bottas, but he has to find his form again.
“Because one thing is clear – the battle between Hamilton and Verstappen will come to the fore, and Perez and Bottas will play an important role in that,” Berger added.
