Inter Milan will be at the center of negotiations in this transfer window. The club have decided to sell some of their star players to raise funds and pay off a debt of £ 80 million. Chelsea among other clubs want to take advantage of that fact.
Achraf Hakimi is one of those players who is likely to leave the club. Hakimi was happy with Inter, but after Conte’s departure, things changed. From now on, PSG and Chelsea are frontrunners in the race for Hakimi.
Hakimi, who can play on both sides of a defensive system, has attracted a lot of attention. Thomas Tuchel, who is big on the 3-4-2-1 formation, would very much like to have a player like Hakimi available.
Hakimi has played in everyone A league games for Inter Milan. It certainly shows how much Antonio Conte trusted the player. He has 7 goals and 11 assists in 45 appearances for I Nerazzurri. These are not statistics you want to associate with a defensive player.
But such is Hakimi’s gameplay, he is very aggressive forward and can easily come in as a right or left midfielder. PSG were reportedly the top candidates, but now Chelsea are also throwing their hats in the ring.
Chelsea have a small advantage over PSG in certain areas. The club is willing to offer Andreas Christensen and Emerson Palmieri a swap deal with Hakimi, as Inter have rejected the original offer from Chelsea.
Chelsea are planning a swap deal including Christensen and Emerson:
Inter Milan has apparently rejected bids from Paris Saint Germain and Chelsea for Hakimi. According to reports from Metro both PSG and Chelsea have made an offer of € 60 million. (£ 51.5 million) to the Moroccan international.
Inter Milan, however, endure a price of € 80 million. (£ 68.7 million) For the 22-year-old. Inter know they will have to pay the debt before the end of the month. However, a swap deal will be beneficial for the club in terms of maintaining the balance of the squad.
Inter Milan are the champions of Italy and there are certain expectations from the club now. They could ask for Emerson or Christensen or maybe even both in return for Hakimi. But involving both players will reduce the fee by a lot, which does not work for Inter.
The club may even decide to sell Hakimi if a better offer comes from one of the two parties. In fact, Inter prefer an expensive bid for Hakimi to relieve some of the financial burdens on the club.
If we were to look at Chelsea’s offer from Inter’s perspective, Christensen would certainly be the better option. He has played more regularly for Thomas Tuchel and his transfer value is close to £ 30 million, which still ensures a decent payout to Inter Milan.
Chelsea have also enticed to be Champions League winners, which may be a factor in Hakimi’s decision-making. PSG, on the other hand, are building a dynasty with Kylian Mbappe. It will be very interesting to see who wins the victory in this race.
