Pre-season 8 of the Indian Premier League (ISL 2021-22), Mumbai City Football Club has announced that Pranjal Bhumig has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at the club until May 2024.
He was born in Assam, Pranjal He started his football journey with several clubs in Guwahati and then rose through the ranks of DSK Shivajians in the first league from U18s to the first team. He appeared with India at youth level at the 2017 SAFF U-18 Championship in Bhutan and played in three out of four matches of the tournament. At the age of 18, Pranjal was chosen by Mumbai City FC In the ISL 2017 project, joining the club as a development player capable of playing anywhere via attack.
The 22-year-old continued his development over the course of four years with Mumbai City FC and made 25 appearances for the club.
Pranjal made four appearances under Sergio Lopera in the recently concluded 2020-21 campaign with the most notable being the start of the season in the final game of the league stage against ATK Mohun Bagan.
Pranjal Bhumig said, “Over the past four years, Mumbai has been a huge part of my life. I have been able to gain a lot of invaluable experience from the different coaches I have worked with over the years. Moreover, the club has put their trust in me and I can’t say enough. Enough about how grateful I am to them. I am only 22 years old, I have so much to learn and achieve that I didn’t have to think twice before committing my future to this huge club. I hope to be able to repay the confidence of the management, coach Sergio Lopera, my teammates and the fans and to do my best in Every time I wear a Mumbai city shirt.”
The coach, Sergio Lopera, said, “I strongly believe that Pranjal is one of the best young talents in India. We see him in training every day and the quality and potential he shows really intrigues us for what the future holds. Most importantly he is an amazing person. He is an excellent professional who is determined to learn and is very mature and balanced for a boy Young. His attitude has helped him a lot in his career.
