Lions v Stormers match canceled

BREAKING NEWS: The South African Rainbow Cup match between the Lions and Stormers, scheduled to take place at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, has been canceled in line with COVID-19 protocols.

The decision was made as part of prescribed precautions advised by the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NICD) to reduce the risk of further infection in the rugby community.

The decision was made Friday, after receiving positive results from scheduled testing for the Lions’ team.

As determined by the contest rules, Stormers will be awarded four scoring points due to cancellation.

“The Lions have followed all protocols and taken all appropriate steps,” said Juri Rowe, CEO of SA Rugby.

“While the cancellation is unfortunate, their approach ensures that the risk of their match against the British and Irish Lions being canceled on July 3 is well managed.”
