Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus has been linked with Liverpool for a number of months and will demand a fee of around £ 34.2 million, with interest rates now reportedly rising.
The Reds have a vacancy in midfield after leaving Gini Wijnaldum and while the line has been that Liverpool are not “planning” a replacement, there is certainly the possibility of one.
Like Leicester’s Youri Tielemans and Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini have been linked among many others, including Neuhaus – which would not quite represent a similar-as-replacement.
Highly rated, Neuhaus has not lacked interested suitors and appeared to be in Bayern Munich with his release clause of 40 million euros, which is said to have been triggered, but he denied such claims.
And now Sport1 reporter Florian Plettenberg, a reliable German source, has stated that “Klopp wants” Neuhaus, and “there have already been talks the last few days” with the player’s representatives.
Update #Neuhaus: #Klopp want him, confirmed! There have already been conversations the last few days. The club wants to replace #wijnaldum. But there is no offer yet. The topic could get hot after the euro. Price: More than € 40 million No release clause. @ SPORT1 #LFC

As Neuhaus’s release clause has already expired, the fee is now negotiable, but Plettenberg was quick to stress that “there is no offer yet” but that it “could get hot after the euro.”
Neuhaus is currently tied to Borussia Monchengladbach until 2024, and as such, it puts the Bundesliga team in a strong negotiating position over German services.
The 24-year-old is one who enjoys venturing further ahead, contributing eight goals and eight assists for Gladbach in 2020/21.
Still, to get into the mid-20s, Neuhaus already has 95 first-team appearances in Germany’s top flight in addition to a further 39 in the second tier and six national teams to his country.
It’s a profile that matches Liverpool’s transfer history in recent years, with both experience and youth on his side – just like the recent addition Ibrahima Konate.
With a range of midfield options that are angular or over 30 years old or prone to injury, Neuhaus would represent a valuable addition at the right price – which could increase due to his summer performance.
But it will be one to keep an eye on to see if the Reds shift their ‘strong interest’ to tangible moves for the Gladbach man.
