No. 1 Recruit Chet Holmgren wins Gatorade Player of the Year

Chet Holmgren, Singh Fe Gonzaga and the No. 1 ranked recruit in the 2021 class, was announced as the Gatorade National Player of the Year 2020-21 Wednesday.

Holmgren is a 7’1 center with a formidable grip and guard-like ability to facilitate an attack. Minnesota’s Novel averaged 20.8 points (on 68.2 percent of shots from the ground), 12.6 rebounds, 4.7 blocks and 4.4 assists last season for the Minhah Redhawks, leading them to a record 20-1 and state championship (third him at the highest level of his career school).

Join a reputable company with this award; Previous winners of the award are Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Jason Tatum, among others.

Holmgren was awarded the prize by a familiar face; Close friend, former Gonzaga Bulldogs star and high school classmate, top five pick in upcoming NBA draft Jalen Suggs is expected. Suggs surprised Holmgren over a Zoom call while Holmgren gathered with a group of family and friends in Minnesota to celebrate.

“I was definitely surprised. Being able to see Jalen pop up on screen and have a few words for me was definitely pretty cool,” Holmgren Yahoo Sports said. This award is right there [with the top] Because it not only recognizes my accomplishments on court, but also recognizes things outside of court by helping my community and pushing myself in class.”

Next year, Holmgren hopes to replace the Suggs, and join the Gonzaga squad preparing for another NCAA Tour Championship.
