The Argentine Football Federation has officially announced their 28-man team that will compete in Brazil for the Copa America 2021, where the talismanic Lionel Messi and Sergio Agüero are both included in the squad.
Ten days after he finished moving to Barcelona, Agüero’s inclusion in the squad comes as a relief, both from a health and a sporting perspective, with Argentine manager Lionel Scaloni deciding to play on the veteran striker’s match fitness.

The former Manchester City striker tested positive for COVID-19 on 2 Junend, but later tests determined that it was false positive with the Argentine national team performing a follow-up test that gave a negative result.
This will most likely be the first time Barça fans and the rest of the football world will be able to see Messi and Agüero together since Agüero’s transfer to the Catalan giants, and they hope to be able to start the connection even more in Brazil.
After suffering so many setbacks together in the past, the two are finally hoping to deliver a victory for Albiceleste in a big tournament.
In fact, their chances in this tournament this summer look strong as Scaloni calls on several world-class talents including Paris Saint-Germain’s Ángel Di María and Leandro Paredes, Serie A breakout star Rodrigo de Paul and the electrifying Lautaro Martínez who want to lead the line to Argentina.
Martínez has started for Argentina at the top of those like Agüero in both recent World Cup qualifiers, but failed to score a goal in both matches. They also hope that Aston Villa star goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is able to shake off the knock that saw him carried in the 2-2 draw against Colombia earlier on Tuesday.
Despite the two draws they suffered, Argentina showed real promise, invention and threat as they progressed. Albiceleste have had their fair share of managerial headaches recently, but Scaloni seems to have stabilized the ship since it came in as manager in late 2018.
With a clear formation and style of play, Argentina looks sharp ahead of the tournament, and with Lionel Messi hungry to bring silverware to his country, they are definitely one of the teams to beat this summer in Brazil.
