MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines qualified for a 3-0 win over Guam and consolidated their hold on third place in Group A of the joint World Cup and Asian Cup qualifiers late on Friday at the Sharjah Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.
Angel Guirado gave Azkals an early lead, scoring Oliver Bias’ pass in the 12th minute.
Then the two teams advanced 2-0 thanks to an own goal from Guam defender Marcos Lopez in the 60th minute.
Then Mark Hartmann turned from a free-kick opportunity in the 88th minute to put the match to bed.

The Philippines now has 10 points in Group A with a 3-1-3 (win and lose) card behind second-place China with 13 points in a 4-1-1 record.
China’s later victory over the Maldives would give the Philippines a place in the third round of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
The Azkals lost to China 2-0 on Tuesday.
