Rashford in Den, Chelsea and BVB star talks

England daily: Rashford in Den, Chelsea and BVB announce talks, Scotland will not kneel down and Maguire's back

England Daily: June 11, 2021

Euro 2020 has finally arrived.

A year late, and still with far more bureaucracy than we as fans would like, the international competition starts tonight as Italy hosts Turkey.

England’s opening match against Croatia is also getting closer and closer, and the tension builds across the nation before kickstart at. 14 Sunday.

If you need to pump up, here are the five stories you need this morning.

If you missed yesterday’s top five stories, you can pick them up, here.

1) Marcus Rashford joins The Lions’ Den

After appearances for Mason Mount and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, it was Marcus Rashford’s turn to enter the Lions’ Den.

The 23-year-old is already in his third tournament at senior level and said he wanted to “One of the experienced” despite his age.

He also revealed that when it comes to basketball, he would pick Tyrone Mings first and Bukayo Saka last, claiming he is “just a rebound champion”.

Rashford would like to put the Europa League heartache behind him this summer as he and England look set to bring it home.

2) Chelsea’s Reece James is facing the media

Champions League winner Reece James was in media coverage at St George’s Park, where he discussed which Chelsea player he would choose for England, how he has to deal with success and how he tries not to brag to Manchester City members of the squad .

James said:

“The last few weeks have been very hectic, we have had many games and massive games.

Once you get here, you kind of have to walk away from club rivalry. We had Manchester City in the final, but when we get here we are a collective team. We push it aside a bit and we are a team here and we have to work together ”

James also went on to name Frank Lampard as his idol, revealing that he is in regular contact with legendary fullback Ashley Cole about his game.

3) Jadon Sancho names his idol

Borussia Dortmund sensation Jadon Sancho has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the last 18 months, with Dortmund apparently willing to accept a € 95m bid for their English talent.

Speaking to the media today, however, Sancho revealed that he is actually a Chelsea fan, and like Reece James, legend called Frank Lampard as his childhood idol.

Sancho said:

“I just loved Lampard and how he played his game. He was so direct and composed on the ball. ”

My “Min #MEADOW quite? I would probably say Frank Lampard. I was one #CFC fan growing up, I can not lie. ”

Can this affect a potential transfer?

4) Scotland will not kneel down

Yesterday we brought you the news that Croatia does not intend to kneel down to show their support for the anti-racism campaign before kick-off this Sunday.

And it looks like they are not alone with news now spreading that Scotland will not take the knee in their fixtures either, perhaps most clearly against England on 18 June.

It remains to be seen how they intend to raise awareness against racism, with some sides instead choosing to point to the mark of respect that adorns the shirt of their nations.

Everything will be revealed on Monday.

5) Maguire returns to full training

Today’s biggest story was Manchester United center-back Harry Maguire’s return to England training.

The Englishman had missed the last month through ankle ligament injury and was absent in all training sessions until this time.

Without trying to defend, England have looked sloppy in their two warm-up matches, having made silly mistakes and seemingly confused on the ball.

Whether he will be fit enough to start against Croatia on Sunday is another matter, but Maguire’s return would be a huge boost for both English players and fans as they build up to potentially England’s biggest tournament ever.
