British Pat McCormack and Lauren Price secured gold medals after winning their respective finals at the European Olympic boxing qualifiers in Paris.

McCormack got men’s welterweight gold with an exciting victory against Russia’s Andrei Zamkovoi.

That was after Welsh fighter Price claimed a unanimous points victory over Zenfira Magomedalieva in the women’s middleweight final.

Galal Yafai was disqualified in his swing weight final against Billal Bennama.

Yafai, who secured his place at the Tokyo Games before the original qualifying event in London was suspended by the coronavirus outbreak in March 2020, was punished after two clashes with the Frenchman in what was a dramatic and controversial end to a gripping final match.

It marked further disappointment for Yafai, 28, who also lost to Bennama in the 2019 World Cup quarter-finals.

The world’s biggest prize did not have such problems when she sent Magomedalieva and closed a memorable week for the 26-year-old after she sealed the Olympic qualifier on Saturday.

European champion McCormack celebrated his 26th birthday in style by winning gold after an absorbing competition with Zamkovoi that beat the Englishman in the 2019 World Cup final.

GB Warriors Frazer Clarke (super heavyweight), Charley Davison (airweight) and Caroline Dubois (lightweight) secured silver medals after losing their last match.

Ben Whittaker was pulled back from his light-heavyweight referee after securing Olympic qualification earlier in the tournament.
