When it comes to Dallas Cowboys wide receivers there is no shortage of opportunities for quarterback Dak Prescott. There is no limit to what this offense is capable of in 2021 if the core is healthy throughout. While Dak is back, it’s also Tyron Smith and La’el Collins who will go a long way towards reaching the team’s ultimate goal.
In terms of air weapons, however, the Cowboys have an abundance of remarkably wide receivers. We continue to wonder whether Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb can each get 1,000 receiving yards in a single season, and logic suggests that this may be the last year in which they will have the opportunity to do so alongside Michael Gallup’s future contract negotiations threatening.
Whether that’s a potential answer in a Gallup-less world or as another option in itself, many Cowboys fans are excited to see what rookie draft fifth-round Simi Fehoko has to offer. We know he did elite athletic traits, but whether they translate to the professional level is the ultimate question.
In an ideal world, Fehoko would surpass veteran Noah Brown in training camp to the team’s fifth wide receiver (Cedrick Wilson is, of course, the fourth). While Gallup is also on an expiration contract, so is Wilson, which means Fehoko could be a future investment in 2021 more than anything, which is not exactly an uncommon road for a novice in the fifth round.
For what it’s worth, the Cowboys are still tinkering with the bottom of the wide receiver position, but none of it should pose a viable threat to Fehoko come cut time. He will have every opportunity to get on the list, even if he lacks some time for this point, which will be exciting to see.
