Euro 2020, Portugal vs France Highlights: Portugal, France both through to the round of 16 after a 2-2 draw: Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo tied the all-time men’s record for international goals with a couple of penalties in a 2-2 draw with France in Group F in Budapest on Wednesday.

The result means that both teams advance to the last 16 of the European Championship in 2020.

Portugal had the best chances in the initial 30 minutes and went deservedly through a Ronaldo penalty kick after French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris destroyed Danilo in the area as the two went for a free kick in the box.

In his big career, Ronaldo had done it all for club and country, so this was surprisingly his first goal against France in his career.

Didier Deschamps’ side drew level just before the break when Nelsen Semedo brought Kylian Mbappe down into the area and Karim Benzema calmly struck home from the spot – his first goal for France since October 8, 2015 – to make it 1-1 at the break.

Benzema doubled France’s lead shortly after the restart, ran on to a fine pass from Paul Pogba over the top of the defense and fired a low shot past Rui Patricio to hit the Portuguese goalkeeper at his far post.

However, Ronaldo was not finished for Portugal and pulled his team back to level with another goal from the penalty spot after a whistle for handball on France’s Jules Kounde in the area.

The goal set Ronaldo at 109 goals for his career, on par with Ali Daei’s record set during his long career with Iran’s national team.

Patricio kept the result line level with a couple of impressive saves on a Pogba strike from distance and a close effort from Antoine Griezmann from rebound.

France move up to first place from Group F and face Switzerland in the last 16, while Portugal advance as one of the best third place finalists to create a knockout round against Belgium.
