The Los Angeles Lakers are finalizing a deal to sign former New York Knicks coach David Vizdale and the Memphis Grizzlies as assistant coach Frank Vogel, according to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Vojnarowski.
Wiesdal last trained in the NBA in 2019 with the New York Knicks – but was fired after season 4-18 started.
In four seasons as the head coach of the NBA, Fizdale has a record of 71-134 (346% win rate).
Fizdale has been more successful as an assistant coach (and co-head coach) with the Miami Heat.
In Los Angeles, Fizdale will have a chance to meet former Heat star LeBron James.
“I think I’m in a place now where I see a purpose in what I’m doing. A deeper purpose,” Fizdale recently said via defeated.
There is no doubt that Fizdale was mistreated as an NBA coach; In Memphis with the list of seniors, and in New York with the list of malnourished talents.
Hopefully, his reunion with his hometown Los Angeles Lakers will give Wiesdal a chance to re-establish himself in the ranks of respected coaches.
