Harness Race Picks: Friday, July 2

There are two meetings to look at on Friday, with my focus on Mildura and Milton.

Best Bet – Race 2, No. 3: I’m Loki
He’s been somewhat frustrated since coming from Western Australia, but he found a very poor race this time around. He was far from a disgrace earlier this week in the mighty Maryboro race, with the depth being much more than what he faces here. He must be able to find the introduction and prove that he is very good.

Next Best Bet – Race 4, #1: Guptas Cullen
It’s the first tour of the new camp here, and I think it could be a successful start. This guy has been running for years but has been out of shame on the metro level lately. He’s dropping miles in depth here and doing his best racing from the front, so he should get every chance up front with the shaft.

Value Bet – Race 5, No. 1: The Stars Shine
This filly didn’t set the world on fire in two rounds on the track, but if she did everything right, I think she’d be shouting at odds. Rub Green didn’t go her way the last time in Charlton after his return in the run. If you can hold a front spot from the shaft, you’ll be in for a knockout opportunity.

Best Bet – Race 4, No. 1: Elekker Hannover
That’s a bit of a run and depth for these former Western Australian mare, but Camp Hargreaves flies with these former Western Australian mare. This girl has twice run for camp, winning in good style at Bendigo last time. This is a tougher job, but she pulled the shaft, so I think she’d hold a position forward and take a beating at the end.

Next Best Bet – Race 2 #9 Plenty of power
He got hit in Winx last time, but I think it would be more effective sitting. The last start defeat came at Stawell, and he just went very carefully up front and left a chance to sit for those behind him. If he’s resting better while running here, he’ll be pretty good based on his previous form.

Value Bet – 10th Race #1 Organized
I’m happy to hide this guy in every way in getting out. Being a new race, the depth is most often on the thin side. I thought this guy was really good from the back in Charlton last time, spotting them off to a big start and they made a floor. He can grab the lead from the pole and run a daring race.
