Sigma Lions team to play the British and Irish Lions

We now know what stands up to the British and Irish Lions when they make their first in-country match, facing the Sigma Lions in Johannesburg. This is the visiting Lions’ first game on South African soil in 12 years, and the hosts will want to put in a bid.

Junior Springbox Fly-Half Jordan Hendricks returns to Team Lions in South Africa, as is the experienced Odendale Burger Center. These two are back to the side, and so is the alternate prop Sti Sithole.

The coach of the lions, Evan van Rooyen, spoke about the expectation of facing the famous Northern Hemisphere tourist, saying: “This is a huge opportunity for every player involved. There is such a small group of players who will have the opportunity to play against players of this level in their lives, and I hope they take Truly a moment to enjoy the enormity of the moment.”

The match kicks off at 5pm on Saturday 3 July and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
