Syracuse women’s ice hockey announced the addition of Sarah Marchand. The forward spent two years in the Women’s Regional Hockey League, where she scored 13 goals and scored 17 assists in the 2019-20 season with the Southwest Wildcats.

Marchand initially committed to Robert Morris University in 2019, when she was 16 and playing in her hometown of Bell River, Ontario. She also played for the Chatham Outlaws teams.

But in May, RMU announced it was cutting men’s and women’s ice hockey programs. Marchand Tell Chatham Kent Sports Network said in June that it was “shocked” with the rest of the team and coaching staff.

Marchand chose Syracuse because “she was able to give me everything that was important to me,” she told Chatham Kent Sports Network. Marchand also cited the proximity to her home in Ontario as the reason for choosing SU.

There are 10 strikers returning from the 2020-21 season that saw the Orange fall 1-0 to the Colonials at College Hockey America. Marchand will be joined by teammates Victoria Klimeck, Anna Lischen and Abby Mulogni. Syracuse is scheduled to open its 14th season on October 1 against Saint Lawrence University.
