Having the chance to play a tournament at home is a special thing, but having the chance to play at your doorstep is a one-of-a-kind experience that Alice Hewson will enjoy.
The 23-year-old recently joined the Centurion Club and is enjoying the prospect of performing on the course at home.
She said: I am really excited for the Aramco Team London series. It’s a great opportunity for the women’s game, and it makes the event even more special to be literally at my doorstep.”
This week, 36 teams will play against each other with each team consisting of three pros and one amateur with the two best scores on each pushed forward hole.
While each professional will also complete everything and the result will be used for individual competition, which will count towards the 2021 race to the Costa del Sol.
Hewson is captain this week and will be joined by Caroline Lund, Legane Lewthwaite and amateurs Elliot Heath.
The Berkhamsted native will see her family later this week as the innovative team format debuts at St Albans.
“It’s a different format but I’m really enjoying it. I thoroughly enjoyed my last year in Saudi Arabia. It should be a great week. I know we’re going to have fun and it’s exciting to play alongside other people as a team and we’re really looking forward to that.”
Hewson did an excellent job in another innovative tournament in 2021 – the Nordic Mixed Championship – where she placed third.
The English golfer acknowledges that the performance has given her a confidence booster and hopes to continue her level over the next few weeks.
“I feel good about where my game is,” Hewson said. “I had a really good week in Sweden in the Scandinavian mixed and I took it every time. I had a really great time on the golf course and enjoyed my time. It was great to have so many positives in that week. It was a bit of a tough start to the season and that’s what made Really trust me. I am very happy with where my game is headed.”
Having been introduced to the course in recent weeks, Hewson knew it would be a tough test for the star-studded field.
She added: “I think it’s a really interesting golf course. The first four or five holes give you a Woburn vibe with huge trees and tree-lined fairways, then open up a bit more – not as many trees but that thick raw would be brutal. The quality of the course and the standards they maintain are amazing. “.
American superstar Lexi Thompson is on the field alongside Solheim European Championship captain Catriona Matthew, Championships Georgia Hall, Charlie Hall, Anna Nordqvist and Anne Van Dam, as well as 2020 Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic Champion Minji Lee.
2021 Race Champion Emily Kristen Pedersen joins the Costa del Sol, along with LET icon and seven-time Medal of Merit winner Laura Davis and Trish Johnson, 1990 Medal of Merit winners.
While this year’s LET winners are also on the field with Lee-Anne Pace (2021 Investec SA Women’s Open), Lucie Malchirand (2021 Ladies Italian Open), Atthaya Thitikul (2021 Tipsport Czech Ladies Open), Stephanie Kiriakou (2021 Big Green). (Open the eggs).
