Who is the most successful French club?

Marseille and Saint-Etienne are the two most successful clubs in the history of French football. Both teams have appeared as Ligue 1 winners 10 times each.

  • Marseille last won the French Ligue 1 in the 2009-2010 season. He dominated Marseille in the late 1980s and won back-to-back titles from 1988 to 1991.
  • St Etienne Single was the most dominant French team during the 1960s. Saint-Etienne won five consecutive Ligue 1 titles from 1963 to 1969.
  • Paris Saint-Germain is the second most successful French team. Paris Saint-Germain won 9 Ligue 1 titles, the last of which was in the 2019/20 season. Paris Saint-Germain won consecutive titles from 2012 to 2016 and is currently the most dominant French team.
  • Monaco and Nantes are the third most successful French team with 8 titles. Monaco last won the Ligue 1 title in the 2016-2017 season.
  • Lyon has won seven Ligue 1 titles and is the fourth successful French club
  • Bordeaux, Lille and Reims are the fifth joint successful clubs with 6 titles to their name.
