Top jockey Shaun Levy has criticized the ‘Absolute Peanut’ award offered at UK horse racing.
Aside from the often high-profile races at the likes of Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood or the Cheltenham Festival, competitions on these beaches find themselves far behind the competitors in terms of money.
This has led a number of coaches to look for opportunities in Ireland, France and elsewhere.
The The richest horse race in the worldThe Saudi Cup, 14.5 million pounds, is held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
Top rider Levy, 33, won the 1,000 Guineas on a 66-1 out of Bellesdon Brook in 2018, taking home £310,487 for connections.
But he says the money was a one-off and that the mill races that take place across the country every day are dedicated to comparative “peanuts.”
Levi said great joy Podcast: “You have more and more races with no quality in it all.
“And the quality should be the prize money. They spread everything thinner and thinner and thinner.
“Now it is much more difficult for the riders. You earn more riding fees than you have ever earned.
“Personally, having fewer races is great because more races only help the people at the bookmakers who get punished more.

“We don’t take advantage of it because what we are filtering for is absolute peanuts – unlike any other country in the world.
“If I looked at America, if I was a jockey there, I wouldn’t ride every day, that’s for sure.
“I was going to ride big races on the weekend and maybe have to travel to one big race during the week.
“But then, if there is a 12-race card on the day you’re looking for a pot of at least 80k.
“While here you can race every day, guarantee three meetings a day, and you’re running an average of £2,500 to race, minus the big bet you’ll only see on weekends somewhere.”
