Wimbledon Final 2021: Ash Barty becomes Wimbledon 2021 champion, defeats Karolina Pliskova in 3 sets – World No. 1 Ash Barty has won his first Wimbledon title. The Aussie defeated Karolina Pliskova from the Czech Republic in a match by three sets. In the match, she won the opening set comfortably, but Pliskova jumped back into the second set, which came into a tie-breaker. Barty kept her cool to win the decisive set 6-3 and earn her second grand slam title after Roland Garros 2019.

This is the first time a Wimbledon woman’s final went to a third and decisive set since 2012. Nine years ago, Serena Williams had defeated Agnieszka Radwanska in three sets at the woman’s final at Center Court.

In particular, Ash Barty is Australia’s first female Wimbledon champion in singles since her hero, Evonne Goolagong Cawley, won the title 41 years ago.

The second set went back and forth, but in the end Pliskova managed to win it and sent the match into the third and decisive set.

On Sunday, the Wimbledon men’s final between Novak Djokovic and seventh seed Matteo Berrettini will be contested.

Djokovic has already won the Australian Open and French Open this year and he has 19 Grand Slam titles to his name.
