Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland has been linked with a move to both Chelsea and Manchester City, among other clubs this summer.
The 20-year-old is considered one of the best strikers in the world despite his young age and is along with Kylian Mbappe in being considered the long-term replacements for Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the battle for the Ballon d’Or season after season.
Haaland has only been with Borussia Dortmund for a season and a half, which means he will cost a large sum to tempt the German giants to accept a bid so early in his contract. The Bundesliga club are also unlikely to make money on him this summer following Jadon Sancho’s imminent transfer to Manchester United. The club does not tend to sell two of its top players in the same transfer window.
Although Haaland is thought to be interested in a move to Stamford Bridge, a move looks unlikely this summer. If we miss the Norwegian international, here are the best alternatives that may be available to us:
Gerard Moreno has been productive in La Liga for four of the last five seasons and comes out of a league campaign where he scored only 23 goals in just 33 appearances as well as winning the Europa League.
The 29-year-old has only recently been part of the Spanish national team and is coming out of a 2020 Euro campaign that saw him fail to score in five appearances (2 starts).
At the club level, Moreno certainly knows how to find the network and can be an instant start at Stamford Bridge after Timo Werner missed the opportunity after the opportunity we created for him last season.
Villarreal can expect some deals for their striker this summer, as The Independent reported a link to Gerard Moreno last month as a back-up plan if we fail to sign Haaland.
In a somewhat surprising rumor of transfer, Romelu Lukaku has been linked with a move back to West London. The Belgian star was with us as a youngster between 2011-14 before Jose Mourinho sold him to Everton without really giving him a chance.
A spell under Manchester United has been followed up by being named a Serie A player for the season as he helped Internazionale win the Scudetto in the previous promotion. Anyone who places a bet on the best goal scorer at the famous bookie – Betfair 12 months ago got a good price on Lukaku. And he could be the favorite heading into next season’s Serie A.
However, Antonio Conte has already retired as manager and was replaced by Simone Inzaghi. This is a result of the former Blues boss being told he has to sell first-team players. Could Lukaku be one of those who moved on? Or could he force himself out of the club?
The disruption at the Milan club has already seen Juventus become the bookmakers’ favorites to regain the title next season.
The Southampton striker narrowly missed out on a call for the England team to Euro 2020 on the back of an excellent Premier League campaign. A move away from the south coast looks inevitable after rejecting a new contract recently.
Danny Ings is now in the last 12 months of his contract with the Saints, leaving the club with a decision to take this summer – will they pay him in or let him travel by a free transfer at the end of next season?
Ings could be a cheaper option for us and one there can still attach to Werner – not replace him. The German is just as adept at playing on the left to support the main striker as he proved himself in forming a good partnership with Kai Havertz at the end of last season.
