Novak Djokovic won his sixth Wimbledon title on Sunday with a four-set victory (6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3) over Matteo Berrettini in front of a crowd in Central Court.
It was Djokovic’s third consecutive Grand Slam title, and it put him in a position to become the first player to win a year of a Grand Slam since Rod Laver did in 1969 when the US Open began in late August.
The win also led him to tie with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for the most Grand Slam titles in history with an astonishing 20 titles. It’s strange that we have three current players who have so many major titles.
This was not lost by Djokovic, who said this about Federer and Nadal after their victory:
“The legends of our sport… the reason I am where I am today”

“I must pay tribute to the memory of Rafa and Roger. They are legends in our sport and are the most important players I have faced in my career. I think they are the reason I am where I am today. They helped me realize what I need to do in order to become stronger mentally, physically and tactically.”
Those were some fine things from Djokovic.
