Navneet Kaur says India is no longer afraid of strong opponents

Olympic striker Navneet Kaur says the mentality of the Indian women’s hockey team has changed in the past few years and the team does not give up until the final whistle.

“It’s not over until it’s over,” Navnit told Hockey India.

“A lot has changed in the mentality of our team in the past few years, we are no longer afraid of stronger opponents. Earlier, when we used to play against Holland or Great Britain, we used to panic. That is not the case now, she said.

Navnet, who has played 79 matches for the national team, is set to take part in her first Olympic campaign in Tokyo.

“Playing in the Olympics is my childhood dream and I’m not going to make it great. With experience comes responsibility.”

Navneet feels that heading into the games with a clear mindset will be key at the Tokyo Games.

“This team is like family. Rani and Savita keep sharing their thoughts with us on how we can improve together as a team. The coaches and the whole team are working towards that goal,” she added.
