Harness Picks: Wednesday 14th July

Two meetings to consider on Wednesday evening, with Bathurst and Redcliffe, caught my eye.

Bathurst

Best Bet: Race 9, No. 3: Bonnie Grove

She was obvious last time, but with the best of her, she’s even better than those. The last time I came out here was last Wednesday when he was dragged backwards by a wide gate and never fired a shot. The previous model was intact and drew much better, she could settle in closer in the run and prove difficult to beat.

Next Best: Race 5, #8: Wattlebank Lass

Pulling a new front row out isn’t an easy task, but she has a little row on her side and it could lead her home and over the barrier. She looked strong in two trials on the track to prepare for her comeback and just needs luck out of the gate to look the winner.

Value: Race 3, No. 1: Toro Delago

He could make a case for this guy for a price, it just depends on the pressure the cops are doing because with his gate speed he should be driving and driving comfortably off the shaft. He tried to drive here last time and fought just fine to finish fourth. If he is driving and controlling, he will interfere with running.

Redcliffe

Best bet: Race 3, No. 5: Snoop Stride

He’s ten years old, but he’s driving this guy, winning twice on the jump, both coming here and each time he’s been impressive. His last win came in the 2040m ride as he sat out of pace, put this horse away and drew clearly. Going back to the shorter ride, no problem and he showed last time that he can work and still be effective in the end.

Next Best: Race 5, No. 5: Brian Christopher

With the gate, he can make it three on the jump. My three year old who has done really well since crossing Tasman, winning his last two on this track and each time has been impressive from his closeness to pace. You must find the front and prove difficult to get past it.

Value: Race 6, Issue 7: Thanks to Fanfor Girls

1 x 3 spot with this clicker at a price. I ran here last Thursday and it was very simple after getting the box seat sitting behind the leader. She didn’t shoot at all, which is disappointing given her former form implying a win was close. She’ll likely get a similar round this time around, giving her another chance.
