If the Suns were victorious in Game 4, the entire NBA Finals would have been altered and the immediate rage would have raged for days.
When Devin Booker had five fouls in Game 4 against the Bucks – another one could have removed him from the game – the referees fouled a clear call against the star guard. Booker attempted to disrupt the throwing attempt of the Bucks Jrue Holiday goalkeeper. Booker arrived blatantly and visibly attacked his opponent late in the fourth quarter, but the officials decided to drop the violation.
“I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know,” Holiday said when asked about the lack of contact.
Referee James Capers added after the match. “During live play, I saw a clean pass for the ball and thought it wasn’t a call. However, after watching the replay, I now realize I missed Booker’s right arm around the waist at Holiday, and it should have been a defensive error on the play.”
This moment nearly changed the NBA Finals, as Booker—who led all players with 42 points in a 17-to-28 shot—was able to continue the game. However, Courtesy of the brilliant and decisive block of Giannis Antetokounmpo – who believed[he] To be honest” — and some big shots by Chris Middleton the Bucks held out for a 109-103 win for a 2-2 series tie.
“While on the road, we kept believing in ourselves. We kept going,” Antetokounmpo said. “We wanted it that bad, and the team showed it tonight. But we have to keep improving.”
NBA players and journalists took to Twitter to share their feelings about the missed call.
Game 5 of the 2021 NBA Finals will take place in Phoenix Saturday night at 9 p.m. The home team won each of the first four games in the series.
